Emillie Marcus两年多前来过清华,当时她是Neuron的主编/Cell的副主编,

记得她长得有点胖,估计可能是因为她经常到世界各地的各个实验室去吃美食的缘故;

Paska Rakic,

研究神经发育过程中migration的大牛。

做这种科学杂志的编辑真是很爽的工作,Emillie总是笑呵呵的,对生活很enjoy的样子

Cell Appoints New Editor

Cambridge, Massachusetts (8 October 2003) - The prestigious journal Cell ann

ounced today the appointment of Emilie Marcus, PhD, as Editor of Cell and Ex

ecutive Editor of Cell Press, effective 1 November 2003.

"The search committee chose Dr. Marcus for her editorial vision and open-doo

r, aggressive approach to the scientific community," said Lynne Herndon, pre

sident and CEO of Cell Press, the publisher of Cell and eight other peer-rev

iewed scientific journals.

Dr. Marcus earned a PhD in neurobiology from Yale University and conducted h

er postdoctoral research in developmental biology at the Salk Institute and

University of California at San Diego. She was appointed Editor of Neuron in

 February 2001.

"I plan to build on Cell’s original foundation of excellence - publishing sc

ientific articles that have both immediate impact and longevity," said Dr. M

arcus. "By presenting exciting, cutting-edge research in a format accessible

to a broad readership, Cell promotes the kind of interdisciplinary thinking

that is at the heart of the most important advances in science."

The many major findings published in Cell over the last 30 years include Dr.

Robert Horvitz’s seminal paper that identifies a genetic program causing ce

lls to die and Dr. Timothy Hunt’s work on the mechanisms regulating cell div

ision. Both discoveries have led to recent Nobel Prizes. In the past nine mo

nths alone, Cell has published exciting new advances in many important areas

, including how cells combat HIV infection and why HIV is able to overcome t

his defense mechanism in human cells, how embryonic stem cells retain the ab

ility to make all other cell types, and how mammalian sperm recognize the eg

g.

"Cell papers have proven that they stand the test of time. They have launche

d many careers," said Dr. Marcus.

According to Nobel Laureate Eric R. Kandel, M.D., Dr. Marcus is a good fit f

or Cell: "Her judgment, high standards, and deep sense of integrity have bro

ught the journal Neuron to a new level. It is hard to think of anyone more s

uitable to lead Cell than she."

As Neuron’s Editor, Dr. Marcus is noted for expanding the journal’s scientif

ic scope, creating an open and accessible editorial office, and introducing

new article formats

看起来好象有点商人的气息,难道科学家的敏锐眼力和精明的商人也有点common 的地方??

应该在反映能力的要求上可能是很common的吧!至少不应该是非常的差劲.
