absolutely agree, for the poor resolution of mri, pet, meg, eeg ,... we really need a non-invasive observation tool giving neuron level spatial resolution and microsecond level temporal resolution.
so , could jeff share with us anything possible to be the candidate please ?

for your second point, i think perhaps the brain as extremely nonlinear info system, can not be decisive for specific input......
we are under some mechanism , but not as accurate as digital circus....
anyway, a stochastic model should explain most functions

my friend, you define yourself as civilian scientist. i don't think it matters, but, do you still follow some convincible researchsource like hi if journals which give most updated reports ?
one typical tragedy is we struggle on sth for years huddling in the closed eyesight but relevant international research already concluded on it longtime ago...
