I think that simulations by computers can help scientists understand the detail functions of the neural networks. However the original idea for designing an effective simulating program must be the fundamental understanding about the human brain. I feel the most of ideas so far may not be right or not include all of the factors.
There is a theory to judge how close a computer simulation can duplicate a human’s mind. (I forget the official terminology of this theory.) I think that is not a right way to prove a hypothesis but only tell us if that hypothesis is a reasonable assumption.
