An active component contained in Atractylodes rhizome (Atractylodis Rhizoma), which is a crude drug. It strongly inhibits Na+ and K+-ATPase activities. (IC50=1.6 x 10^-4 M).
This is sesquiterpenoid contained in Atractylodes lancea rhizome described in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia.
It has an H2 blocker-like effect that inhibits gastric acid secretion and prevents ulcers and progress of ulcers.
