Bio-informatics and Techniques (About 22 hours)
《Bio-informatics and Techniques》是根据神经所各年级学生对Informatics和神经科学领域相关的一些主要技术的理论与实践操作的具体状况进行调查, 并征求学生们和导师们的意见后提出的。它的主要目的是在理解实验理论的基础上着重于实践操作过程中的Trouble-Shooting,也就是如何熟练地做好漂亮的实验。比如说;如何提高Patch-clamping成功的Rate,如何检测低丰度的mRNA等等。我们认为神经科学是一门实验性极强的科学,一旦课题确定后,实验手段是实现预定的目标的关键。我们的学生经过轮转后,都掌握了一定的实验技能,也具备初步的Trouble-Shooting技能,在此基础上,进一步理解和掌握多种实验方法, 特别是提高解决实验所遇问题的能力,将有助于他们的工作、学习和今后的科研职业生涯。 课程设置初步定为11讲,共22个小时。涵盖:

Proteomics, April 1st (Sheau Yu Hsu, USA)
Detection of proteins and nucleotides, April 8th (Western-, Northern- and Southern-blot analysis, DNA foot-printing) (Liao Kan, SIBS)
Determination of protein-protein interactions, April 15th (Two yeast, GST-pull-down, IP, etc.) (Jingqiou Zhou, SIBS)
Modulation of gene expression, April 22nd (Knock-out/in, conditional knock-out, anti-sense, RNAi) (Xiao Yang, Beijing)
Medical Statistics April 29th (T-test and Anova)
Behavior assessment of learning and memory, May 8th (T-maze, operant conditioning, etc) (Guo Aike, ION)
授课教师不但请国内外直接应用相关实验技术的专家担任,而且请少量直接进行该技术操作的高年级学生参与。每讲2个小时,包括半个小时左右的理论、一个小时的实验方法阐述和半个小时的答疑和讨论。我们希望这种尝试有助于学生尽快地理解和掌握他们感兴趣的实验技术和实验的tricks。另外我们要求每个教师(Speaker)上课时,均使用PowerPoint格式的讲稿,以便将所有课程内容汇编在光盘上,分发给每个学生,以备其将来之需。
At the end of each lecture, the student is expected to grade the instructor and provides comments on the content and instruction of the lecture. This will be used for future improvement of the course.
